Para V

(2018) “Para V” is a composition written for a dear friend, Vanessa Diazdeleon. Its title is a combination of Spanish and a nickname to mean “for Vanessa.” This saxophone duet was written and premiered by myself, Joshua Arnoldy, and Vanessa at our Undergraduate Junior Recital. It consists of four movements, each a quality or trait that I feel we both share.

Motivation
Uncertainty

Motivation comes with new ideas and inspiration. Nothing in the world can stop you. You’ve got your groove and everything is going well. Eventually, you run into adversity. You start to get in a state of Uncertainty. You are questioning your original intent. Things don’t quite line up like they used to and you’re in constant thought. Usually that uncertainty leads to some sort of greater understanding of ourselves or the problem, leading to Feel, a section focused on the emotional reaction to stress, adversity, and a consequence of inspiration. Eventually, you gather yourself, and after this better understanding, you find your Potential moving forward into the next situation, gaining back your motivation.
